MSCC Meetup: Cross Platform Development
At the pace mobile technology and devices are growing, Cross-Platform Development is no longer an option, it’s a must! Developers can either go develop for each platform individually or they can now use some very cool tools to develop Apps running on different platforms all sharing the maximum amount of codes as possible.
That was the spirit of the MSCC meetup which I attended last Saturday.
Jochen stated the presentations with an overview of Apache Cordova.
Formally known as PhnoeGap, Apache Cordova is a set of device APIs that allow a mobile app developer to access native device function such as the camera or accelerometer from JavaScript.
Combined with a UI framework such as jQuery Mobile or Dojo Mobile or Sencha Touch, this allows a smartphone app to be developed with just HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
Joki also made a demo of developing with Cordova by using Visual Studio.
For more information, visit the Cordova website and have a look at the tools available in Visual Studio 2015.
After Joki’s presentation, I unfortunately had to leave. But I understand the Alex, a very passionate Microsoft Student Partner made a demo of developing Cross Platform Apps using Xamarin.
Xamarin allows apps to share code across all platforms. Target iOS, Android, Windows and Mac with a single, shared C# codebase. Use the same language, APIs and data structures on every platform. To get started, check it out xamarin.com.
Was great meeting you guys! See you soon for more cool meetups!
